General Practice & Primary Healthcare
University of Limerick

The Graduate Entry Medical School was established in 2007 and was the first new Medical School in Ireland in 150 years.

General Practice is taught in the University of Limerick in three of four years of the Graduate Entry Medical Programme. The teaching is embedded in a problem-based learning model emphasising patient-centeredness and self-directed learning skills for students. There is an extensive Early Patient Contact Programme in Years 1 and 2. The School has extended placements of 18 weeks in primary care in Year 3 in the Mid-Western region and neighbouring provinces. These are the longest placements in primary care in Ireland.
